Moody’s: New sanctions not to impact Russia’s sovereign rating
MOSCOW, Oct 26 (PRIME) -- New sanctions against Russia will not result in lowering of its sovereign rating, but may lead to downgrading the outlook on the rating to stable from positive, Senior Vice President of international rating agency Moody's Investor Service Kristin Lindow said on Friday.
“If new tough sanctions are introduced, we will likely take a pause to look at their actual influence on the state’s credit rating before upgrading it to the investment level. Such an event is not expected to reduce the rating, but the outlook may be revised from positive to stable,” she said.
On Thursday, Lindow said Moody's may upgrade Russia’s sovereign rating to the investment level already in 2019.
She also said that the Russian government may weather possible new U.S. sanctions using tools similar to the ones used in 2015.
The executive said that sound financials demonstrated by domestic companies may help Russian return capitals of foreign investors.
